more spermies...

i adore photomicography and the microscopic beauty it reveals that can't be seen by the naked eye.

anton van leeuwenhoek, The "father of microbiology," made over 400 different types of microscopes and discovered bacteria and spermatozoa, among other things....he described his newly discovered lifeforms as 'wretched beasties moving about very nimbly.'

i just love that~!

so, carrying on with the spermie theme...i present to you one of my most recent portraits~! i did this one a few months back...all on my own with no assignments or grades or deadlines attached to it. granted, it's not my favorite painting...i'm still really proud of it just because i painted it completely based on my own free will.

this self portrait is part of my ongoing unfertilized series. another one of myself...don't act like you didn't see that one coming :] it's little...i think 6"x6" and took me about 5-6 hours to complete. i feel since i paint on such a small scale, i need them to be extra precise and detailed...however, this one's painted a little more roughly and loose than most of my others. not too much of a drasitc change, though when compared to my previous portraits.

up next for your viewing pleasure, the unfertalized version of lindsey lucero, or lu, which was the second portrait in this series and done much earlier than that hot pink eyesore up above.

as far as subjects go, lindsey was my first choice when it came to adding more to the series because 1) i love her; she's so pretty like a disney princess. 2) she's not offended by spermies...on the contrary! she likes my series and has shown great enthusiasm on the topic. 3) her bday was quickly approaching when i started my unfertilized self portrait, my final project was due shortly after, and i needed a good gift idea.

this painting is done on a 10" x 10" canvas and the image was created with spray paint, oils, paint markers and fake pearls.

i killed many birds with this painting ^___^
